Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how OrgoLens handles personal information when you use its website, accounts, scanner, chemistry tools, Library, Study Sessions, feedback features, and subscriptions. It does not govern websites or services that OrgoLens does not control.
OrgoLens is designed for organic chemistry students and is not directed to children under 13.
Information we collect
Email address, display name, user ID, sign-in provider, authentication records, and account status.
Typed questions, drawn structures, cropped or compressed scan images, OCR text, answers, confidence results, saved history, and study-session activity.
Plan, subscription status, billing customer identifiers, renewal dates, and transaction status. Stripe processes full payment-card details; OrgoLens does not receive them.
Feedback type, rating, subject, message, contact permission, review-publication permission, status, and submission date.
Credit use, feature interactions, approximate network information, browser or device information, security signals, dates, and error logs.
Chemistry-keyboard recents and favorites, sidebar state, and similar settings stored locally in your browser.
How information is collected
We collect information directly from you when you register, scan or type a question, draw a structure, purchase a plan, study, or send feedback. We also receive information from authentication and payment providers and automatically receive limited technical data when your browser communicates with the Service.
Camera access begins only after you choose a camera feature and grant browser permission. Manual Photo mode waits for you to press the shutter. OrgoLens processes the selected frame or uploaded image—not your entire camera roll.
How we use information
- Authenticate users and protect accounts.
- Read questions, classify chemistry topics, generate answers, render structures, and provide explanations or study tools.
- Save history, avoid repeat processing, manage credits, and synchronize features across devices.
- Operate subscriptions, prevent fraud, maintain security, troubleshoot errors, and enforce these Terms.
- Respond to feedback and publish a review only when the user separately permits publication.
- Measure and improve reliability, accessibility, scanner performance, and chemistry accuracy.
- Comply with legal obligations and protect users, OrgoLens, and others.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on performance of the Service contract, legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, consent, or compliance with law, depending on the activity and location.
AI and chemistry processing
Questions, OCR text, submitted structures, and relevant scan images may be sent to OpenAI to generate and verify answers. Compound names or structures may be queried against PubChem and OPSIN. These providers receive only the information reasonably needed for the request, subject to their service arrangements and security practices.
Do not include names, student IDs, grades, faces, private messages, or unrelated personal information in a scan. Use the crop tool before submitting a page. AI output may reproduce information visible in the uploaded question and may be inaccurate.
Retention
Account, saved-question, credit, study, and subscription data may be retained while your account is active and afterward for a reasonable period needed to operate the Service, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, comply with law, and maintain financial records. Processed scan images and OCR text may be retained with saved solutions so you can revisit an answer without rescanning.
Feedback is retained while it is being reviewed and for a reasonable support history. Stripe may retain transaction records under its own legal obligations. Local preferences remain on your device until you clear browser storage. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer reasonably needed, subject to backups and legal requirements.
Security
OrgoLens uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including server-side API credentials, managed authentication, access controls, and encrypted network connections. No internet service is perfectly secure. Protect your password, sign out on shared devices, and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access.
Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or an explanation of how your information is used; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; or appeal a privacy decision. You may also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.
Use the Data & Account controls on the Account page to download your saved information or permanently delete your account. You may also manage billing through the Stripe portal, clear device preferences through your browser, clear saved question history within OrgoLens, or submit a privacy request through the Feedback page. We may need to verify your identity. Some information may be retained where permitted or required by law.
Children’s privacy
OrgoLens is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. A child under 13 should not create an account or submit content. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, submit a deletion request through the Feedback page.
Users between 13 and the age of legal majority should use OrgoLens only with permission from a parent or legal guardian and in accordance with school rules.
International processing
OrgoLens and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, appropriate legal safeguards should be used for international transfers.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as the Service, providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be updated. If a material change requires additional notice or consent, we will provide it through the Service or another appropriate method.
